The Issue.

Sickle cell disease is a life-threatening genetic condition that impacts thousands of Ghanaians. Medications like hydroxyurea can drastically improve the quality of life for those affected, yet high costs and limited availability make them inaccessible for many families. As a mother of three living with sickle cell disease, I have experienced firsthand how critical these treatments are—and how devastating it is when we cannot afford them.

Who Is Impacted?

Children, parents, and entire communities are forced to bear the burden when life-saving medications remain out of reach. Without consistent access to affordable treatments, people with sickle cell disease suffer from severe pain crises, organ damage, and an increased risk of early death. No family should have to choose between financial hardship and essential healthcare.

What Is at Stake?

If nothing changes, countless lives remain at risk, and the emotional and economic toll on families will continue to escalate. By ensuring that these medications are affordable—or even free—we can break the cycle of pain and poverty, giving every Ghanaian living with sickle cell disease a fair chance at a healthy, fulfilling life.

Why Now Is the Time to Act.

We already have the medical expertise and infrastructure to make these treatments accessible. With urgent action from the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, NHIS, Sickle Cell Foundation of Ghana, Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge), Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Pharmaceutical Companies, Policymakers, and all health institutions, we can secure funding, negotiate fair pricing, and establish reliable distribution channels. Sign this petition today and help ensure that no one is denied life-saving sickle cell medications due to cost or availability.

Join us in this fight for justice.

Sign our petition demanding that pharmaceutical companies and policymakers take immediate action to reduce the cost of medications like Hydroxyurea, ensuring that every life has access to these life-saving treatments. Affordable healthcare is not a privilege for the few—it is a fundamental right for all. Your support can help break the cycle of suffering and pave the way for a healthier, more equitable future for every Ghanaian living with sickle cell disease.
